Great Future - Agriculture
Hi Folks,
It's good to be here again
after a looong break! Glory to God. Someday I will share the story..b
ut for now let's get down to business. What's up with Nigeria currently:
Depressed Economy!
Recession
is a shot in the arm, it’s a wake up call, not a death sentence but it’ s a
time for us to think deeply about what we must do to take us out of the woods. It
is a time to spend massively, but wisely. We need to reduce government
involvement in many aspects and bring in the private sector.
Agriculture is the next destination
to a great future. We must embrace it with both hands. Private institutions,
government need to pay attention to the huge potential that lie untapped,
unharnessed in Agriculture. If we settle down and do what’s right with Agriculture
–it will become a liberating step for us as a nation in terms of creating
employments. Raw materials come from Agriculture and we can use that to revive
some of the industries that have become comatose. Agro based industries in
focus. We must increase agricultural and food productivity so that the country
does not need to import these things anymore. Export is not happening for us as
a nation, a few private institutions or individuals are trying but being
frustrated with unnecessary business limiting policies. We need to create the
enabling environment for businesses to thrive which begins with each person....
The world is big enough for everyone to do their best bits. It is possible to have
a great prospering Nigeria if we are not being gripped by corruption which to
me amounts to greed, selfishness and mismanagement. It is an understatement to
say that Nigeria is blessed. We are overwhelmingly buoyant in natural
resources. Let’s tap the natural resources, harness the skills and creativity
of the people. It is awful to allow all these to lie waste.
You cannot tell people who have
known and experienced quality to step down and patronize mediocrity in whatever
form; quality is quality anywhere, good is good anywhere and bad is bad anywhere.
Local or home made products are all good but we need to understand that before our
goods can compete favourably with other products in developed countries, they
should be at par, we must think and have quality and we can even become
extraordinary in the way we conduct our businesses. It is not enough to just
produce… Get ISO
standard stamp on our products to meet international standards; quality issues
must be settled I reiterate. Exports should be made cheaper; import costlier: we
don’t necessarily need to devalue the naira to achieve this. Service is a
product and we can export it as well, for example the brain, creativity and
skills of the people, handwork, etc., services both from government and the
people. Introduce stabilizers in the system: We must produce and process for
consumption and also adopt standards that will enable us to export what we
produce to drive revenues. Planning is important in the sense that whatever savings we have made
should be used to create channels for generating income for the nation. We
should have used the oil money to develop the Agricultural sector of the
economy; we would have fared better by now. If we want to handle Agriculture
properly we must take care of the problems that can hinder us as a nation to
make that venture a success, e.g., provision of infrastructures: Transport
facilities, good network of roads, etc so that food can be supplied to any area
on a timely basis, train the farmers to handle sophisticated and specialized
farming equipments and machines for better results this will attract young
graduates to engage in Agriculture, provide storage facilities so that
perishables can be preserved and sold at good prices to minimize wastage.
Entrepreneurship is a good step for the nation, check out the
excerpts from the book: Breaking the Bondage of Employment by Nath
McAbraham Inajoh Senior pastor of the Church of God Mission is an eye opener: “If you want to become rich, you must work
for yourself. I don’t know any millionaire employee” says Femi Oke former CNN
staff.
It might interest you to know that your Creator wants you to be an employer
of Labour. So the first right step for
you to take is to think Entrepreneur. The money you make from working for
building someone else dream is to plan how you can get to establish yourself
in your vocation. In the scriptures, one
of the indices used to describe the extent of prosperity for the people of
Israel during the time of King Solomon, was that the people were not compelled
to seek employment anywhere as each was self-employed. 1 Kings 4: 25 says:
“During King Solomon’s lifetime, Judah and Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, lived
in safety, each man under his own vine and fig tree.” Stay inspired!
I am your constant companion;
I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden.
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am at your command.
Half of the tasks that you do you might just as well
Turn over to me and I will do them quickly and correctly.
I am easily managed; you must merely be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want something done.
After a few lessons, I will do it automatically.
I am the servant of all great people
and the regret of all failures as well.
Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine but I will work with all its precision
Plus the intelligence of a person.
Now you may run me for profit or you may run me for ruin.
It makes no difference to me.
Take me, train me, be firm with me and
I will lay the world at your feet.
Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

Let's Be Clear About Some Things
I am talking about habits; those habits that are not helpful, changing those aspects of yourself that are not helping to make you as you were intended. But I will mention that there are some aspects that you Could Never Change, even if you wanted. You could never change your DNA, your looks may be adjusted not changed, you might change your facial appearance not your face. I will always be who I am irrespective of all the add-ons and make-ups. My very essence remains unchanged because my blue print is with someone who made me. Even if am cloned, you would clone me not something different from me.
We need to understand and get this fact clear. First things first, you need to start appreciating who you are for the singular fact that you were made that way to serve a purpose unique to you and only you.
A lot of people have lived many years but have not enjoyed their lives the way they wanted. The quality of life you have lived, determines your fulfilment and otherwise. I want to live a long fulfilled life on earth and so do you, I believe, but what steps have we taken to ensure that we have the quality of life that we should have.
There comes a time when you need to sit down and think hard about how to make some lifestyle changes to reach your life's goal and purpose. It does not matter how things have been or how things are at the moment, recession, global meltdown or not. You have to have that attitude of this-has-got-to-change and set about making the kind of lifestyle changes you desire to see happen.
Now, take a pen and piece of paper, list on the one side all the wrong habits, on the other side, list the causes and besides the causes, list all the steps/actions you need to take that will reduce to the barest minimum or kill the habit. For me, what's not helping me should go completely if I can help it.
Some habits are so strong, we have been in it since God-knows-when, we have hit at it and it has not budged. Then it becomes clear that you need God to help you do away with it. If that is what it requires, why not. It is even better to go to the Highest Authority to report your case and receive respite.
Some of the habits that I can readily mention are listed below. You can make your own list depending on your peculiar situation and circumstances.
- Excessive drinking
- cursing/being abusive
- having a negative view of life
- fault finding /blaming
- womanizing
- Lesbianism
- masturbating
- having different sex partners
- adultery
- homosexuality
- gossiping
- procrastination
- not keeping to time for your appointments
- selfishness/stinginess
- not keeping your word
- lying
- arrogance/pride
- talkativeness
- overspeeding
- back stabbing
- keeping grudges
- hatred
- envy, etc.
The key to the breakthroughs we are seeking outside, lies within us. All we need to do is reach inside of ourselves and pick the keys. I urge you to break the wrong habits and make new good ones.
Till I write next time, I leave you with these thoughts.
